depression and yoga

What to do and what not to do when you are depressed?
First of all don't meditate!  Meditation emphsizes highly the state you are in that moment, so in the ''mudha '' state, (depressed), you  will come out of the meditation unsuccesful, feeling worse then before.
To come out of this phase, try to emphasize Asanas, especially heart openers, such as the bridge, the fish pose ; spinal twists and inversions... Try to regulary do the sun salutation in a flowing, focused enthousiasm. these asanas will help you re-structure yourself, come out of the accumulation of Kapha dosha and feel proud of your accomplishments that you will observe with practice.
Watch out your diet as well, you might benefit avoiding food which are classified in the kapha dosha in Ayurveda (coffee, black tea, chocolate, mushrooms, onion, garlic, alcohol, tobacco, too much sugar, fried food).
And to crown all these efforts why not having a good Jnana yoga practice? reading the teachings of Patanjali, Swami Sivananda and others?

Namaste,
Meriç
